About Us

Age Concern (Age UK) exists to promote the well-being of all older people recognising their right to independence, fulfilment, dignity and choice, working with them to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. All Age UKs (Age Concerns) in the Yorkshire and Humber region  believe that people in later life are entitled to the help they need to improve their own sense of well-being and to have control of their own lives, and that these principles must always be a part of planning services and working with older people.

Most of the Age UKs (Age Concerns)  in the Yorkshire and Humber region offer general information and advice on issues relevant to people in later life and their carers, including benefits, community care and availability of local services. Many people will approach their local Age UK with complex enquiries, and in return receive a free, confidential service run by trained staff and volunteers.

Age UKs in Yorkshire & Humber provide a wide range of personal and practical support services, including giving advice, arranging for respite care and friendly visitors, helping people after a stay in hospital, doing small jobs in the house and garden and running trips, holidays and other leisure activities.

Where possible, Age UK enable people in later life to solve problems themselves, providing as much or as little support as needed. They also provide vital services which focus on the needs of older people in the region. Many are funded through contractual agreements with local government.

The localAge UK organisations co-ordinate a number of initiatives which promote healthier lifestyles, provide older people with opportunities to give the experience of a lifetime back to their communities and encourage interaction between the young and old in order to break down stereotypes.

Each Age UK is managed by a Chief Executive or Chief Officer and in most cases assisted by a team of experienced, committed managers organising the delivery of services within their local community.
